The five checks worth making
Run every shortlisted provider through the same five checks.
- Performance — does the plan list real resources rather than vague words like unlimited?
- Support — can you reach a human, in a channel you use, at the hours you work?
- Pricing honesty — is the renewal price published next to the first-term price?
- Safety — are backups automatic, and can you restore them yourself?
- Exit — can you take your site and domain elsewhere without a fight?
Warning signs
None of these are automatically disqualifying, but each one deserves a straight answer before you pay.

- No renewal price anywhere on the page.
- Support only by ticket, with no stated response time.
- Claims of unlimited everything with no resource limits published.
